Forest Trail at Pangthang

Project Location: Pangthang, Sikkim

Project Architect: Ar. Lhendup W. Bhutia

Status: Proposal

Client: Forest, Environment and Wildlife Management Department

Amidst the dense forest of Pangthang is proposed an adventure trail for recreation of citizens and tourists visiting Gangtok city. Main idea was to develop the organic setting into a thrilling spot for adventure lovers as well as connoisseurs of nature. The construction is planned to be executed in 2 stages and site to be developed zone wise. Site is divided into 4 zones: ‘Zone 1’: Entry plaza with small cafe & souvenir shops, where the walking and the biking trail starts. Following the trail one enters ‘Zone 2 & 3’ having interpretation center and greenhouse planned such that the trail passes through it and visitor’s don’t have to enroute themselves providing them with wholesome information about the flora and fauna of the area. Further moving to ‘Zone 4’ where people can indulge into leisure activities in the open air restaurant, witness the traditional sikkimese practice of roasting cinnamon in mud ‘Bhattis’ and trout farming. Re-encountering the trail to ‘Zone 5’ where the bicycle trail ends and the zip-line transporting them to the end of the site to reach the road again. Throughout the site activities are divided to keep the visitors engaged & excited. The proposal is a potential revenue generator as well.
